Excerpts from
A Feather on the Breath of God
Spoleto Festival Performance

When I was 42 years and 7 months old, a burning light of tremendous brightness poured into my entire mind, inflamed my entire heart. A voice from heaven said to me, "Write and speak what you see and hear."

Thus began the odyssey that took an obscure uneducated nun on a journey to become a 12th century author, poet, musician, healer, naturalist and prophetic voice for her time; her counsel being sought after by everyone from local peasants to the papacy in Rome, Elenor of Aquitaine and King Henry II.

Actress and playwright Carol Anderson powerfully portrays Hildegard of Bingen, a woman of wisdom, wit and passion. Hildegard's struggle to obey God's voice in the face of politics of her times creates a fascinating story of faith and courage.

Response to “A Feather on the Breath of God”

"When I saw the performance I was truly astonished ... a marvelously accurate and entertaining portrayal of Hildegard."
Bruce Hozeski, Ph. D. Translator of Hildegard's book, CVIVIAS and Founder of the International Society of Hildegard von Bingen Studies.

"It was an incredible performance. But it was more than a performance, it was inspired. I will take away the look on your face at the end. The light was full on your face when you said, "I am a feather on the breath of God." I have seen a lot on Broadway and this performance was up there with some of the best."
Sue Monk Kidd, NY Times Best Selling Author of The Secret Lives of Bees

"A moving, authentic and powerful portrayal of the life of the Mystic."
The Rev. Elizabeth Canham, Executive Director of Still Point Ministries, Inc.

Hildegard Let me tell you something.jpeg

“ What I need from you, my friend, is to write down my story just as it was; what was hard and what was glorious. I do not want it to be said after I am gone that these things were of my own doing. I want that people, when they read this story, would see clearly this was of God…”
